2026: My Year of Divine Glorification. John 17 vs 5

Stirring Up the Gifts within You.

Listen to Audio Version:

Written by Tòmíwá Olúyínká

In 2 Timothy 1:6, Apostle Paul did not tell Timothy to discover his gifts. He told him to stir up the gift of God which is in him. Pastor Adebisi on Sunday, interpreted this to mean that “God created us full. He put gifts in us that can only materialize when we fan their flames.”

There is no human created by God who is empty. You might have told yourself you have nothing to offer, that you have no gift or talent, but the real truth is that God has deposited something in you; the only way to realise it is through functioning. Your gifts can only be made known when you first activate them and then develop them consistently.

There are many reasons why we think we have no gifts, in spite of the nudge from something brewing within us. One of those reasons is fear. “There’s a spirit within us that wants to do something, but there is an alter spirit weighing down the zeal to do.”  Sometimes we might even try to put our gifts into action, but discouragement from those around us can cause us to cower and shut it down again. This is why we must be mindful of our company.

The good news however, is that these hindrances are not more powerful than the handiwork of Christ. The Spirit that lives in you is not there to be limited by fear. What you have to do is to get up, continually practice by using those gifts, and pray for God to help you use them for His purpose. Additionally, the Word of God is all the courage you need. Your spirit needs to be fed positive things, and God’s word is its food. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (1 Timothy 1:7) NLT. It might be harder to fight fear, and more comfortable to hide your light under a bushel. But you have to get up!

God, who put the gift in you, commands you to shine your light before men unapologetically. He has expectations from you, so why disappoint Him?

Look within yourself, what are those things you’ve imagined yourself doing, but fear stops you from manifesting them? What gifts do you possess but have yet to harness?

The Holy Spirit dwells in you; use your gifts!
