Are you one of the many christians who mistakenly believe that missions are for the evangelism department alone, or those called to serve in foreign countries? Do you assume that unless you leave your homeland, you cannot participate in God’s mission? I am here with evidence in the New Testament that your assumption is untrue.
Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. Every believer is called to participate in God’s mission. No one is left out.
As a missionary that you are, it is important you manifest God’s vision to have others find Jesus. As this is a lifestyle of representing Christ where we are, you should always remember that you are sent and you are Christ’s ambassador. You might sometimes feel shy, fearful or uncertain, but when you remember the possibilities of the gospel, you become bold. Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek”.
This week, you and I, alongside other members of church, will be individually taking practical actions on being a missionary. We are committed to praying daily for at least one missionary or anyone that does not Christ. We are committed to sharing our faith with at least one person this week. We are committed to supporting missions financially according to God‘s provision. We are committed to participating in the church evangelism and outreach programs. We are committed to mentoring and encouraging young believers to have a heart for mission. We are committed to use our confessions and daily interactions as opportunities to represent Christ. We are committed to availability if God calls us to full-time missionary service.
The ministry of evangelizing Jesus is not for a select few. It is the responsibility of every member of the body of Christ. We might all serve in different capacities, but it is for a common purpose of bringing souls to the Lord. The question is not who is responsible for missionary, it is if we are faithfully committed.
