Living For The Glory of God

God’s intention since the beginning was for us to share in His glory. He created Adam and Eve as a fulfilment of this, but through their disobedience came the great tragedy of God’s plans for humankind. But redemption came. Through the birth, life,  death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, glory was restored. In Christ, we are once again partakers in the glory of God if we believe and live according to His word.

But what does it mean to truly live? What is the glory of God? Who is God?

Rev. Dr. Olanrewaju Olorunniyi opened the Stewardship Revival with a powerful message titled Living for the Glory of God, answering these foundational questions succinctly.

To live, he explained, is to have an impactful existence according to God’s purpose. God created you for a purpose, and that purpose is to exhibit His glory to the world. Your role is to understand the mind of God and live in alignment with His plan for your existence.

The Glory of God resides in everything He created. (Psalms 8:3-5; Isaiah 4:5) Through Jesus Christ, you share in God’s glory. Everything you do should be to the glory of God, because if you have something that does not glorify God, your life is not living on the purpose for which you were created.

God is a jealous God. In the recitation of the 10 commandments, the first says: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”(Exodus 20:3). “Who is at the peak of your mind? How do you intend to share in the glory of God if your attention is on something else?” Rev. Olorunniyi asked the church. It is when God is your greatest focus that you can share in His excellent glory. God should take first place in your life at all times if you’re living for him.

You have a template — Jesus. “To live for God’s purpose requires sitting with yourself and asking: what would Jesus do? Would Jesus do the things you’re doing? Jesus was confident to ask that God glorify him (John 17:5), because He had fulfilled His Father’s will on earth just as it is in heaven,”  Rev Olorunniyi admonished the church.

In closing, he asked the church again, “Do you have the same confidence as Jesus? Are you living your life contrary to the things of heaven? Who owns you? The first step to living in the Glory of God is to recognise, to respect, and to follow the absolute ownership of God.”
